Dösemealti Carpets...

In the Dosemealti region, situated on the foothills of the Taurus Mountains in Antalya, deep blue indicates hope and red symbolizes friendship. They are used in the carpets woven in conformity with the nomadic tradition.

As regards to the motifs, geometric patterns are dominant; namely the ones which are known as mihrapli; those with the prayer niche, and akrepli; those with scorpions.

Natural dyes are obtained by boiling plant roots in cauldrons. Carpets that are woven with wool dyed with these dyes are first washed and then spread out under the sun throughout the summer months to attain their natural colours.

It is possible to come across this sight which transforms the foothills of the Tauruses into carpet fields between the months of June and September.
